This post is totally un-savings related. I’ll throw a coupon code at the end or something if that makes it fit this blog a little better for ya 🙂
I was texting someone very close to me who just told me she’s pregnant (YAY!) but also that she’s nervous. That she’s scared. That she doesn’t know what she’s doing. I reassured her with all my heart that she will be fine; it just takes a little adjustment and she’ll be so busy that she won’t even have time to be concerned with what she’s nervous about now! I also told her that she was CHOSEN to be this baby’s momma. That means she’ll be this baby’s perfect parent. Nobody else was chosen – only her. But don’t get me wrong, I didn’t sugar coat it. I was real and told her that it’s the hardest job, but also the most amazing. And I told her I struggle too.
She sent me back the simplest text that struck me so deeply. She said “but you’re so good at it.” It took my breath away. I know it didn’t mean much to her, but it meant everything to me.
Right now, my family is going through a bit of a hard time with a death of a loved one and the illness of another. We’re struggling because we’re so far away. I’m particularly feeling overwhelmed with packing for the kids and myself, planning, thinking about the flight, and making sure I make time for those important to us. I’ve found myself yelling at my kids more, having less patience, and just not being the best version of me. But to see myself through the eyes of someone else, so innocently saying “but you’re so good at it.” It really does make you stop and think.
So I want to take a moment and let the other mommies and daddies out there who are struggling and tell you BUT YOU’RE SO GOOD AT IT. Your kids adore you. You may yell, you may use tv as a babysitter when your mind is elsewhere, you may feed them pizza 3 days in a row, but guess what? You’re doing the best you can and YOU’RE SO GOOD AT IT. We don’t say it to ourselves often enough. Hold onto that notion when you’re struggling.
So in keeping with the theme of this blog, here’s a few links for some discounted e-giftcards that you can use to spoil the mommy or daddy that you think is doing a great job 🙂
Happy saving and parenting!
